Transportation Around Bangkok Thailand
Buses
Bangkok has an extensive bus service with routes serving every part of
the city. There are both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned
buses which provide an extremely cheap way of getting around town.
Bangkok Subway (MRT):
This underground train system MRT is the newest public transportation
system in Bangkok Thailand. Opened in 2004, MRT is convenient
and safe. All signs and announcements are in Thai and English.
Bangkok Skytrain (BTS):
The two line system is spotlessly clean, fast, efficient and
relatively cheap. All signs appear in Thai and English.
The Sky Train BTS connects with the MRT underground within walking
distance.
Taxi:
Metered taxis are easily available in Bangkok. Many drivers
change shifts at about 15:30-16:00hrs, and they may not accept you
unless your destination is convenient. Passengers must pay tolls
in the case of using a tollway or an expressway. Hotel taxis
have fixed tariffs. Taxis cruising the streets of Bangkok, and
designated "taxi-meters" charge 35 baht for the first kilometer and
about 5 to 7 baht for every kilometer.
Tuk Tuk:
Three-wheeled open-air vehicles taking two passengers, tuk-tuks offer
an interesting ride. Best for shorter trips during off-peak
hours. Fares range between 30 baht to 150 baht. Settle the
fixed fare before proceeding. |
